ABOUT US

HOW WE IGNITED THE FLAME

After ten years of dancing professionally, owner Katie Black found herself back close to home deciding which path to pursue next. Katie has been passionate about inspiring people to move since the age of 16. In addition to pursuing a career in dance, her love for movement introduced her to yoga which sparked the desire to complete her Yoga Alliance Certification in 2008.

Her life had been transformed by movement and she wanted to share that experience with others through teaching dance and yoga. With the encouragement and support from Snoqualmie Valley locals, Katie decided to open her own studio.

The name IGNITE was born from the word agni (a Sanskrit word for “inner fire”) which came to Katie in the middle of the night. She scribbled that word on a scratch piece of paper on her bedside table and sparked the flame.

Dance & Yoga was to become a place that people of all ages and all abilities could thrive, feeling supported and challenged in a safe and loving environment. With the help of her husband, their families, and local families, IGNITE opened with two studio rooms in the fall of 2010.

14 years and 2 locations (North Bend & Carnation), IGNITE has just started season 14, employing over 30 incredible professionals. Katie is humbled by the support of her community, and is looking forward to many more years to come!

WINTER SHOWCASE & RECITAL

Registering for a dance class at IGNITE includes participation in our Winter Showcase (early December) and Annual Recital in May/June. Winter Showcase is a performance at a local venue in conjunction with North Bend’s Holly Days that includes showings from our recreational classes and dance company. Our Annual Recital is our final performance event of the school year at a local theatre featuring dance numbers from our recreational classes, dance company, and our infamous Dad’s Dance. Recital costume fees are processed through Jackrabbit in February/March with Tuition and are non-refundable. All students are encouraged to participate in the Winter Showcase and Annual Recital. If you do not notify IGNITE via the recital consent form handed out in mid-February that you will not be participating in June Recital by March 1st you will be charged the non-refundable costume fee. There are many benefits to participating in IGNITE performance opportunities. It helps to strengthen students technique and skills by providing additional motivation to practice daily. It helps to build confidence, gives students the opportunity to express themselves, and allows for the students' family and friends to see all they have accomplished over the year.

STUDIO EXPECTATIONS

Drugs, Alcohol, Vape and Mind-Altering Substances are prohibited at IGNITE and IGNITE events. Dancers shall not illegally use, possess, sell, distribute, or be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, mind-altering substances, smoking (cigarettes or vape), medication not prescribed to them by a physician and approved in writing by the parent/guardian, drug paraphernalia or any item which purports to be such. Dancers will be pulled from the studio if they violate this policy. Studio Behavior + Etiquette Dancers and parents should be respectful of the studio space. IGNITE is a safe and supportive environment for all ages to explore their potential. Be mindful to limit the use of cell phones and to take long conversations outside. We strive to keep IGNITE a healthy and positive place. This can be met when we are mindful of our conversations by not putting anyone or anything down. Any disciplinary actions you enter into with your own children should be taken care of outside of the studio. If, at any time, you have questions or concerns regarding something experienced at IGNITE, please don’t hesitate to email the studio. Please do not contact any IGNITE teacher via phone, text, email, Facebook, or any other social media. You may contact the front desk and we will relay your messages. Class Behavior/Etiquette: Be sure to arrive on time. Being more than 15 mins late equals ONE absence. If you are going to be late, please call to let us know and wait outside the dance room until the teacher motions you in. If you are over 10 minutes late a teacher may ask you to sit down or warm up separately before joining class to keep you safe and prevent injury. Dance bags should be left in the lobby cubbies and water bottles need to be brought into the dance room. Please be sure to pack a reusable water bottle in your dance bag. If you have several classes in a row, eating a quick snack between classes is OK, but PLEASE let the teacher know. This means eating in 5 mins or less! A positive attitude and a SMILE in the dance room is a must! Be respectful of your instructor and your fellow dancers who are there to learn and have a good time. Be assertive, moving quickly to prepare for across the floor, or when asked to move to the center of the room. Dancers talking while the instructor is talking or neglecting to follow directions will be given a chance to remedy the situation at hand. If it happens a second time, dancers will be asked to leave the room and to re-enter when they feel they are ready. Eye contact and interaction is greatly appreciated. Dancers are encouraged to thank their instructor at the end of each class. Parents, feel free to stay and watch technique classes (blinds may be pulled during choreography). This way you can see what is taught in class and see how your child is progressing. However, once your dancer is in the dance room, the instructor is in charge. Please don’t interact with your kids as they are trying to learn and can be distracting to other students and the teacher. Private instruction with any of our teachers is available. Scheduling should be done by emailing the studio. The teachers should not be contacted directly. The private rate is $85 per hour. IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL YOUR SCHEDULED PRIVATE, YOU MUST DO SO WITHIN 24 HOURS OR YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THE PRIVATE. EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE FOR SICK OR FAMILY EMERGENCIES. Student/parent/teacher conferences are available during conference week.
