BALLET / Pointe / PBT

Ballet.

Ages 3 - 19

Ballet is the foundation for all other dance forms and is a necessity for every serious student of dance. In this class, the emphasis is proper body positioning and the development of correct muscle alignment. Students strive for grace, fluidity of movement, and discipline.

Ignite Dance & Yoga is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough 9 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. The ABT® National Training Curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. Pre-Primary through Level 5 will be taught by ABT® Affiliate Teacher, Alexandra Roumanis, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. In August, 2023, 36 selected IGNITE ballet students completed and passed ABT NTC examinations for levels 1, 2 and 3.

Pointe & Pre-Pointe

Ages 10 - 19

Pointe dancers perform ballet technique while wearing pointe shoes that supports all of a dancer’s body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. Extensive training and practice are required to develop the strength and technique needed for pointe work. Permission is required to join any of our pointe classes.

Progressing Ballet Technique

Ages 7 - 19

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is a program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon to help students advance in all dance forms by training muscle memory. PBT focuses on core stability, weight placement, and alignment. PBT is practiced internationally.

Ballet Intensives

ABT National Training Curriculum Exams

Ages 8.5 - 16

IGNITE Dance offers student examinations through American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum to all of our eligible ballet students every other year. The ballet examination class is a culmination of the training the students have received throughout the school year and a way for the students to demonstrate their dedication. Students are not required to take the exams. ABT exams provide useful feedback for the dancers regarding their technique and artistry. In August, 2023, 36 selected IGNITE ballet students completed and passed ABT NTC examinations for levels 1, 2 and 3.
